Perched on a rocky spur and surrounded by a lush and untouched nature made up of woods, Mediterranean vegetation and terraces cultivated with vines and lemon trees, Scala is the oldest town of the Amalfi coast. At the height of its economic splendor, Scala boasted over 130 churches, as well as noble palaces and civil buildings that reflected the cultural fervor of this town. Among its most famous citizens, we have to mention fra’ Gerardo Sasso, founder of the Sacred Order of the Knights of Malta. Among its valuable monuments, the beautiful Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the suggestive Romanesque style Church of Annunziata, the Church of San Giovanni Battista, the Bishop’s House, the ruins of the Ziro Tower and the ruins of the Church of Sant’Eustachio worth a visit.
